a while ago I was offered the opportunity to review both the magnetic nail polish and the nail art pens from the brand Rio. If you're a new reader on my blog then you may not know but I'm a massive nail art/ nail polish junkie. I love anything nail related and so I couldn't wait to try these!
Before trying these I didn't actually own any magnetic nail polish (although my granny has the Nails Inc. ones and I've done my sister and her nails with them before) so I couldn't wait to give these ones a go.
What's unique about these ones is that instead of having one design of magnet on the lid of each colour like the Barry M ones there are five different magnet designs which work with all the colours, so unlike the Barry M ones you don't have to buy each polish separately to use the different designs. When I painted my mum's nails (photoed) I decided to go for the striped one.
The set comes with three nail polish colours- a pink, blue and silver. They are very simple to use, simply paint your nails with the colour of your choice and leave it to dry. Then apply another thin coat on top of that and hold the magnet on top for a few seconds to create the design. I found you had to slowly rock the magnet from the left to the right of your nail to make sure that the magnet will work on the whole nail. This is quite tricky to do and you need a steady hand as you have to hold the magnet as close as possible to the nail without touching it in order for it to work, but after some practice it's easy! In the photo that was the second time I had tried them as the first time I didn't read the instructions and they went wrong- oops!
The only bad thing I have to say about these is the size of the brush. I find that it is too big to use easily and you will end up adding too much polish to your nail, meaning it won't dry properly and it's hard to spread the polish easily as the large brush makes it clumsy. It doesn't look that big in the photo but it is when you're trying to use it!
Apart from that that though, is a great product for anybody who wants something more exciting than plain nails but who doesn't have the patience/time to do nail art.
The set also contains a 2-in-1 base/top coat, nail file, nail prep and a sanding block along with the three nail polishes and the five magnet designs.
The Rio magnetic nail polishes retail for £29.99 and are available here (they currently have free standard delivery too for UK orders!)
although I was sent the Rio magnetic polishes for review purposes for islaay.com this does not influence my review and is 100% honest as always
