How to Create a Glam Vampire Makeup Look For Halloween

Halloween is the only night of the year that you can transform yourself into any character. There are many options for Halloween costumes, from ghastly ghosts and wicked witches. It’s a great opportunity to let your imagination run wild, sometimes even a bit crazy if you’re honest. We have the perfect gory-glam look if you want inspiration but don’t know what to wear. We asked Kelli Bartlett, a New York-based makeup artist, to create a tutorial for a vampire-like look. The results are truly frightening.

Complexion Nocturnal

It is important to prepare your skin before you apply the foundation. Bartlett recommends moisturizing your lips and applying moisturizing cream to the skin before you apply any makeup. This helps the product set well and lasts a long time. Apply a toning cream such as Chanel Le Blanc Multipurpose Illuminating Base ($48). To reduce the appearance of redness and sunspots, Use a large fluffy brush such as the Anisa Multi Powder Brush ($40) to apply your favorite foundation. Bartlett recommends Nars Natural Radiant Foundation (49) in a lighter color than your skin. You don’t need concealer if you are nocturnal. Apply a clear eyebrow gel to prepare your arches for the next steps.

The skin here is even and slightly pale, which makes it a perfect look for a vampire.

Sinister Brows

Use a gel liner or pomade such as KVD Vegan Beauty Shadow, Eyeliner, and Brow Pigment In Graphite ($20) to create a bold, sinister brow. You can use a spoolie or an angled brush to work the product into the natural brow hairs gently. Then extend the shape towards the temples using the angled brush. Bartlett recommends defining the shape and correcting it with an angled brush soaked in makeup remover.

Haunted Gaze

Apply a creamy black shadow, such as Nars Velvet Shadow Stick Flibuste ($29), to shape your eye. Next, buff the product to an angular shape, past the orbital bone towards the temple, and into your nose contour. You don’t have to worry if it gets messy. Your angled brush can be used to fine-tune the shape with remover. To achieve a deep black color, add layers.

Next, apply INC.Credible Lip Slick Eye Pigment in Back (’99’) ($10). This is a red metallic gel that you can directly apply to the iris using a synthetic fiber paintbrush. This is an important step in this eye makeup look.

Use your finger to apply a shimmery red shadow like Hourglass Scattered light glitter eyeshadow in shade Aura ($29). To even out everything, rub the same product on the lower lash line and drop it to the bottom of the eye.

Use an eyeliner such as Urban Decay 24/7 in Perversion to line the upper lash line and the inner edge of the lower lashline. Use a stiff brush to apply the shadow. It is important to have a long-lasting eyeliner that doesn’t fade.

Use several coats of black mascara on the top and bottom lashes. The thicker the mascara, the better. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara ($27) is a great product. For a more gory effect, apply Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss Rouge Grenat ($30).

Apply a bright red cream to your brows using a spoolie. A matte lipstick can also be used.

Carve Out Your Contour

Bartlett created a contour using a blackened purple lipstick ( Pat McGrath Mattetrance lipstick Deep Void $38). She applied the lipstick to her palm and blended it onto the cheeks with an Anisa Blending Bronzer brush ($34). A blending brush like the Mac #221 Mini-Taped Blending Brush (28 USD) will give you great control when blending.

Apply Fenty Contour Stick in Amber ($25) to the deepest part of your cheeks using the Anisa Buffing Bronzer Brush. Buff in an upward motion.

Use a large fluffy brush to apply translucent powder to your face and let it sit for several minutes before you remove any excess.

It’s time to revitalize it.

To create voluminous lips, you must first make sure your lips are properly hydrated and primed. Bartlett recommends Mac Prep +Prime lip ($19) to smoothen the lips and prevent lipstick feathering. This is essential when layering multiple lip products.

Bartlett mixed various lipstick colors to make the red bold and vibrant. She mentioned that she used Pat McGrath Mattetrance Lipstick shade Elson ($38), which was a bright orange-red, and shade McMenamy ($38), which was a deep burgundy. You can add a touch of extra magic by applying a gloss to the middle of your lips and then adding red glitter to it.

Next comes the fun part: add blood! You can do it all. Bartlett likes Ben Nye’s Fresh Scab (about $10) because of its thick texture that keeps it in place.
